transforming problems into opportunities 'hoograven invites you' is a new research project
by architects alfredo brillembourg and hubert klumpner of urban think tank. they will hold
workshops, symposiums and various activities,discussing this topic
at the utrecht manifest 3rd biennale of social design from 4 - 11 october, 2009.



hoograven is a moroccan neighborhood in the city of utrecht. the area of makes up
5 percent of the total population of the utrecht and is a highly segregated area with
great division between the old and new hoograven. authorities are aiming to make
it a more mixed and prosperous by building housing and shopping centers that would
attract the middle class, inviting them to invest in the area and encouraging private
enterprise.

the s.l.u.m lab (sustainable living urban model) founded by alfredo brillembourg
will also be utilized in this instance. the lab works as a nomadic enterprise;
bringing planners, architects, and students from all areas of the globe to converge
and to work towards an understanding of the link between urban planning
and poverty alleviation.
